Golden Timber Supply Area

Last updated on November 17, 2025

Located in southeastern British Columbia, the Golden Timber Supply Area (TSA) straddles the Rocky Mountain Trench and upper Columbia River Valley northward to the Big Bend area near Mica Dam.

It is bounded on the west by the Selkirk and Purcell mountains and the Revelstoke TSA; on the north by the Robson Valley TSA; on the south by the Invermere TSA; and on the east by the Rocky Mountains and the province of Alberta.

Several parks border the TSA. They include Hamber Provincial Park and five national parks — Yoho, Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Glacier. Cummins Provincial Park lies within it. The Golden TSA is administered by the Selkirk Natural Resource District.

The Golden TSA allowable annual cut (AAC) is 485,000 cubic metres as of June 3, 2010.

Postponement order

The Forest Act — Section 8 (3.1) of the Forest Act stipulates in part that: If… the chief forester considers that the allowable annual cut…is not likely to be changed significantly with a new determination, then…the chief forester by written order may postpone the next determination…to a date that is up to 15 years after the date of the relevant last determination and must give written reasons for the postponement.
