Fort Nelson Timber Supply Area

Last updated on June 12, 2026

The Fort Nelson Timber Supply Area (TSA) occupies British Columbia’s northeast corner. Covering about 9.8 million hectares, it includes the communities of Prophet River, Fort Nelson, Toad River and Muncho Lake. The Fort Nelson TSA is administered by the Fort Nelson Natural Resource District.

Fort Nelson TSA’s current allowable annual cut (AAC) is 2,582,350 cubic metres, effective July 16, 2019. Generally, a new AAC is set at least once every 10 years.

Partition

Under Section 8(5) of the Forest Act the chief forester in determining an AAC can specify a portion of the AAC that is attributable to certain types of timber, terrain, or areas of the TSA.

The current cut level includes three partitions:

  • 200,000 cubic metres to be harvested from the northwest portion of the TSA;
  • 1,469,410 cubic metres from deciduous volume in the rest of the TSA; and,
  • 912,940 cubic metres from coniferous volume in the rest of the TSA.

Current Allowable Annual Cut (AAC)

Effective July 16, 2019, the allowable annual cut (AAC) for the Fort Nelson Timber Supply Area (TSA) is 2,582,350 cubic metres and includes partitions to encourage an expansion of forestry opportunities in the northwest portion of the TSA and promote a return to harvesting the deciduous timber profile.
