Highway 17/Ravine Way Transit and Active Transportation Improvements

Last updated on September 15, 2025

Highway 17 - Ravine Way Transit Project

Supporting faster and more reliable transit service, improving connectivity to other parts of the region and integrating with active transportation routes.

Traffic impacts

New traffic patterns are now in place along Ravine Way:

  • A bus-only lane has been added for eastbound traffic. All other vehicles must turn right onto southbound Blanshard Street — no through traffic allowed.
  • The left turn from Ravine Way onto Blanshard Street, for westbound drivers, is no longer permitted. Vehicles must continue straight.
  • Drivers wanting to use westbound Ravine Way for access to go south on Blanshard Street should continue north on Vernon Ave to make the connection using the U-turn route.

Drivers can expect delays and are encouraged to:

  • Obey all safety signage and drive with care
  • Check DriveBC for the most up to date information

The Highway 17/Ravine Way Transit and Active Transportation Infrastructure Improvements Project is progressing improvements to the Ravine Way area, between Highway 1 and Highway 17/Vernon Avenue. This project and area will play an important role in the future of the transit-oriented commitments recently made by the provincial government near Saanich’s Uptown district.

Project budget

The project budget is $20 million.

Status

Construction is scheduled for completion at the end of summer 2025.

Public engagement

A community information session was held in Saanich in May 2024.
