Highway 1 Kamloops brake check construction progress 2026-02-06

The project intends to expand and improve the eastbound scale and brake check and the westbound scale and CVSE inspection areas to better support trucking operations, with a focus on safety, improved lighting, and upgraded washroom facilities.

Traffic impact

During construction:

  • Scales and brake check will remain operational
  • There may be limited space and extended queues
  • Existing washrooms to be closed during construction. Extra facilities have been provided at Ink's Lake Brake Check
  • There will be short term disruptions or closures
  • Inspection Areas may be temporarily relocated on site

Status

  • Construction underway at both eastbound and westbound sites
  • The East Bound Brake Check is back to its pre-construction configuration and capacity

Project benefits

  • Expanding the existing eastbound brake check area
  • Adding flush washroom stalls on east and west sides
  • Additional short-term parking on westbound side
  • Lighting improvements
  • Grading and paving works
  • Utility and drainage improvements
