Lions Gate Bridge

The Lions Gate Bridge is a vital transportation corridor, provides access to key tourist destinations, and is used by on average 60,000 drivers per day. Keeping this corridor safe and in good working order is a primary objective for the project.

The North Approach Viaduct, which connects the North Shore to the main span of the Lions Gate Bridge, underwent asphalt resurfacing activities in September/October 2023. This maintenance work will keep the bridge safe and reliable for ongoing use.

The project included:

  • Milling existing asphalt along the vehicle travel surface to prepare for the new asphalt layer
  • Repaving with standard asphalt 

Project Cost

The total project budget for this work was $1.25 million and was completed by Miller Capilano Highway Services.

Status

The bridge deck resurfacing and paving work is now complete.

Recent Lions Gate Bridge Projects

  • Counterflow System Upgrade
    • Replaced signal heads and lane controls with modern LED lights and added new traffic cameras (Completed May 2022)
