Highway 3 - Jaffray Overhead and Big Sand Creek Bridge Replacement Project

This project will provide a new bridge over the railway tracks on Highway 3, two kilometres east of Jaffray, and a new bridge crossing Big Sand Creek, approximately 2.5 kilometres east of Jaffray.

The new bridges will replace the current structures that were built in the 1950s and are nearing the end of their life cycle. The new structures will be built to a modern standard designed to service today’s higher traffic volumes. This portion of the highway serves an average of 6,000 vehicles per day.

Highway 3 is a vital east-west route through British Columbia that connects to Alberta. Replacing these bridges will support the commercial, industrial, local and tourist traffic that uses the highway.

Status/Schedule

• Construction beginning in summer 2023 in finishing in 2025.
• A $25.1-million contract was awarded to Emil Anderson Construction Inc. to build the project.
