The contract for the project was awarded to Coquitlam Ridge Constructors Ltd. in September 2025.
The Coquitlam River Bridge upgrade project includes seismic and drainage upgrades, climate adaptations, including abutment and embankment modifications and concrete replacement. The construction of a multi-use path on the south side of the bridge will enhance the experience of active transportation users, in addition to improved safety measures for cyclists and installation of a new cultural art fence.
The construction contract was awarded for $6.5 million.

Will construction noise impact neighbouring residences?
There will be construction noise associated with equipment and concrete pouring during the late afternoon or early evening, including some overnight work through the construction period. All other activities are anticipated to generate minimal noise impacts. The closest residences to the construction activity are located approximately 250 metres away, so noise impacts will be minimal. Noise will be monitored and mitigation considered, as appropriate, under the Ministry’s Noise Policy.
How will neighbouring residents benefit from the project?
Neighbouring residents will benefit by increased safety in the case of seismic events, as well as improved bridge infrastructure that brings safer, easier active transportation to the area – including sidewalk widening and multi-use path construction – and an Indigenous art installation, designed by Kwikwetlem First Nation artists.
Will the project include artwork or other aesthetic considerations?
The ministry is currently engaging with Kwikwetlem First Nation to integrate an art installation that will be featured on fencing, on both the north and south sides of the bridge, to highlight the cultural significance of the area.
Will construction activity on the bridge create any interferences to navigation for mariners on the Fraser River?
Construction activity is not expected to result in any interference to navigation. Details are available here.
