Summary: Open Vinson Lake to ice fishing and remove waterbody specific quota

Status: Proposed

Region: 8, Okanagan

Management unit (MU): 8-6

Regulation type: Method/Gear/Bait and Quota

Species: All fin fish

Closing date: January 17, 2025

Decision statement: Pending

Current regulation:

  • No ice fishing
  • Trout/char release
  • Bait ban
  • Single barbless hook

Proposed regulation:

  • Reverting to regional regulations
  • The lake will be open to ice fishing and regional quotas for all species will apply

Rationale:

Vinson Lake was part of a large-scale assessment to evaluate the impact of changing lakes to trophy type regulations in 2013. After 10 years, it was evaluated in 2023. Based on the assessment results, it was determined that the fishery is under performing and not meeting the trophy or quality fisheries management parameters.
