Summary: Big OK (Island Lake) Lake changes to hook requirement and daily quota for rainbow trout

Status: Proposed

Region: 3, Thompson

Management unit (MU): 3-18

Regulation type: Method/Gear/Bait and Quota

Species: All fin fish

Closing date: January 17, 2025

Decision statement: Pending

Current regulation:

  • No Ice Fishing
  • Rainbow trout release
  • Artificial fly only
  • Bait ban
  • Single barbless hook

Proposed regulation:

  • No Ice Fishing
  • Rainbow trout daily quota is 1 with no fish over 50 cm
  • Artificial fly only

Rationale:

Moving to single hook from single barbless hook is in line with regional direction for stocked lakes. Diversifying angling opportunity by allowing limited harvest for smaller fish while implementing size restriction to protect and keep larger fish in the fishery.
