Summary: Anzac River implementation of fly fishing only and no fishing zone, and changes to method and bait

Status: Proposed

Region: 7a, Omineca

Management unit (MU): 7-23

Regulation type: Season and Method/Gear/Bait

Species: All species

Closing date: January 17, 2025

Decision statement: Pending

Current regulation: Regional Regulations

Proposed regulation:

  • No Fishing from April 1 to June 30
  • Implement no fishing zone within 500 m from new Anzac bridge between August 15 and March 31
  • Fly fishing only above sign at North Anzac tributary
  • Barbless hook
  • Bait ban

Rationale:

The proposed changes address the recent industrial road development adjacent to Anzac River. Studies indicate that there is a need for conservation measures for bull trout in the upper Anzac River, including a fly fishing only zone and specific area and timing window near the bridge in the upper Anzac. The proposed changes maintain fishing opportunity balanced with reduced pressure on bull trout during pre- and post-spawning periods.
