Summary: Fraser Lake implementation of requirement for single hook and keeping all other water-specific regulations

Status: Proposed

Region: 7a, Omineca

Management unit (MU): 7-13

Regulation type: Method/Gear/Bait

Species: All species

Closing date: January 17, 2025

Decision statement: Pending

Current regulation:

  • Lake trout daily quota is 1 with no fish under 60 cm

Proposed regulation:

  • Lake trout daily quota is 1 with no fish under 60 cm
  • Single hook

Rationale:

Fraser Lake is home to several sensitive resident and migratory fish species, including anadromous species of salmon. In addition, juvenile White Sturgeon have been released into the lake since 2019 as part of efforts to recover the Nechako White Sturgeon populations. They have since shown to remain and are utilize the entire lake throughout the season.
