Summary: Verdant Lake trophy fishery regulation

Status: Proposed

Region: 7a, Omineca

Management unit (MU): 7-15

Regulation type: Quota

Species: Rainbow trout

Closing date: January 17, 2025

Decision statement: Pending

Current regulation:

  • Regional regulation
  • Single barbless hook,
  • Bait ban
  • Quota is 5 but not more than 1 fish over 50 cm

Proposed regulation:

  • Implement rainbow trout daily quota of 1 with no fish over 40 cm
  • Bait ban
  • Requirement for single barbless hook

Rationale:

Verdant Lake is a stocked lake and management as a trophy fishery with no lake specific regulations. Reducing retention of fish greater than 40 cm will increase the potential of fish to grow larger, result in higher catch rates of larger fish and create an improved trophy fishery.
