Summary: Simpson Lake rescinding November 1 to April 30 in-season closure

Status: Proposed

Region: 7b, Peace

Management unit (MU): 7-22

Regulation type: Season

Species: All fin fish

Closing date: January 17, 2025

Decision statement: Pending

Current regulation:

  • No Fishing in lake from November 1 to April 30, tributaries closed all year
  • Trout/char daily quota is 2 with no fish over 40 cm
  • Bait ban
  • Single barbless hook

Proposed regulation:

  • Rescind lakes closure and tributaries closure
  • Trout char daily quota is 2 with no fish over 40 cm
  • Bait ban
  • Single barbless hook

Rationale:

Current Simpson Lake regulations were put in place to conserve any larger trout over 40 cm. There is an additional winter fishery for rainbow trout harvest. A recent assessment in 2023 indicates there are minimal rainbow trout over 40 cm. Tributaries closure to be rescinded as there are no tributaries to Simpson Lake. This is an error in synopsis.
