The Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Initiative Agreement program is one of British Columbia’s (BC) most effective tools for accelerating the transition to low carbon transportation fuels. Through performance-based credit awards, the program supports innovative and transformative projects that strengthen BC’s fuel supply, enhance long-term energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, stimulate economic development, and advance made-in-BC low carbon fuel solutions.
Transportation accounts for 41% of BC’s annual greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonizing this sector requires significant shifts in how fuels are produced, supplied, and used. Initiative Agreements help enable these shifts by supporting early actions, reducing project uncertainty, and helping build new compliance pathways that benefit the entire fuel ecosystem.
Since 2014, Initiative Agreements have provided over 2.7 million credits to more than 50 projects.
The following table lists projects supported under Initiative Agreements in each program year.
