Under the Low Carbon Fuels Act (LCFA) the director can publish carbon intensities (CI) without application or invitation to a public website maintained by or on behalf of the minister for the following fuels:
For clarity, these published CIs will be referred to as proxy CIs. Proxy CIs allow suppliers that have limited lifecycle information to report under a CI that is more accurate than the default CI, without requiring a CI application as is required for other published CIs (fuel codes).
Suppliers are required to submit the following documentation with their compliance reports, to use proxy CIs:
a. Records
b. Invoices
c. Contracts, and/or
d. Purchase agreements
Table 1 lists approved proxy CIs and details the fuel pathway requirements to report fuel supply under them.
| Fuel Code | Fuel Type | Production Region | Production Type | CI (gCO2e/MJ) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PROXY001.0 | Propane | Western Canada | Natural Gas Plant | 71.28 |
| PROXY002.0 | Propane | Western Canada | Oil Refinery | 77.97 |
| PROXY003.0 | Propane | Central Canada | Natural Gas Plant | 73.96 |
