Search for Terrestrial Ecosystem Data & Information
Data is made available in multiple formats for a variety of users. There are multiple ways to find terrestrial ecosystem data and information.
For metadata and links to downloadable data, search DataBC with any of the following theme codes:
- ECO: ecosystem mapping, ecoregions, biophysical mapping, terrestrial ecosystem and other ecological themes
- OTH: other themes, such as agriculture capability, and erosion potential
- PEM: predictive ecosystem mapping
- SEI: sensitive ecosystems inventory
- SOIL: Soil surveys/mapping
- TEM: terrestrial ecosystem mapping
- TER: terrain mapping, includes terrain inventory (TIM), terrain stability mapping (TSM), bioterrain (TBT) and surficial geology
- WHR: wildlife habitat ratings and species distribution mapping
- WLD: wildlife and wildlife habitat mapping
Mapping Applications and Spatial Data
Use mapping applications to access terrestrial ecosystem information:
- Soil Information Finder Tool for soil information
- Habitat Wizard for fish and wildlife information and some ecosystem data
- BC Species and Ecosystems Explorer for plants, animals and ecosytems
Access and use terrestrial ecosystems information with other provincial data:
Access terrestrial ecosystems, terrain and soils GIS data:
Use Cross-Linked Information Resources (CLIR) to search multiple provincial publication, report and document repositories for species and ecosystem data at one time, such as Ecological Reports Catalogue (EcoCat), Environmental Information Resources System (EIRS) and the J.T.Fyles Natural Resources Library.
Terrestrial ecosystems information is frequently used to support the environmental assessment application process in British Columbia. To find project reports submitted to the environmental assessment office, use the EA Project Map.
TEI index maps illustrate the distribution of mapping projects in the province, including project attributes, in PDF format:
