Wildlife, fish and habitat project reporting provides summary level information highlighting management activities related to wildlife, fish and habitat in B.C. This page contains information about the data collection process, the funding sources for the work, and links to projects dashboard to access summary and spatial information on projects.
The government of B.C. has a responsibility for the stewardship of its many animal and plant species. This stewardship is carried out in part through management activities such as inventory and monitoring surveys, species health surveys, and research. These activities inform questions about species populations or habitat. The provincial government also undertakes land use planning, habitat enhancement, restoration and conservation activities to support positive outcomes for ecosystems and species.
The B.C. government partners with First Nations, non-profit environmental organizations, private industry, municipal governments and educational institutions to achieve outcomes for the management of wildlife, fish and habitat values on the land base.
Projects led or funded by agencies or organizations external to the provincial government are included in this reporting if:
Projects that support the management of wildlife, fish and habitat often involve varied organizational structures, multiple objectives, funding sources, shifting priorities and timelines. Over time the coverage of project tracking is expanding as new organizations and funders partner with the provincial government to include their projects in this reporting. The wildlife, fish, and habitat projects dashboard allows users to search the data by using several filters.
The data collected for this reporting is stored in the Reporting Silviculture Updates and Land Status Tracking System (RESULTS) database. Within this database, each record has objective and activity codes to summarize the work that was completed. These codes have been listed and defined within a PDF:
Contributors who want to have their information included in this tracking are invited to contact Land.Water.Investments@gov.bc.ca to determine if their work is in scope of this tracking and to develop a strategy for including their work.
Data collation is an ongoing process, as project leads, program areas and funding agencies work together to produce accurate summaries of the investments being tracked. This collaborative approach ensures consistency in reporting year over year and incorporates quality assurance protocols that support data integrity. The funding agencies and program areas are the authoritative sources of information on individual projects and the associated investments.
To support the accurate interpretation and use of the information presented in the projects dashboard, the criteria developed to determine which projects are in or out of scope for annual investment reporting are as follows.

The Wildlife, Fish and Habitat Projects Dashboard allows users to visualize where the wildlife, fish and habitat projects and investments are being made on the land base. It shows the location of project boundaries and allows users to query the project summary data.
Within the dashboard, searches will result in individual records. A single project may have multiple records within the dashboard. This is because a unique record is created for each year of a project, for each funding source of a project, and in some cases for project phases or parts.
Access to the dashboard is open to the public.
