Review of teacher education programs

Last updated on April 8, 2024

The BC Teachers' Council reviews and approves teacher education programs at B.C. post-secondary institutions to ensure that they will produce graduates that meet the standards for educators in B.C.

Framework for program review and approval

Post-secondary institutions and the BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) use a framework that supports teacher education programs. This support helps the programs as they continually improve the way they prepare candidates to enter the teaching profession. The framework outlines the processes involved in the review and the approval of a teacher education program. It also shows the principles that guide the processes, the procedures for how the processes are applied, and the measures for how a program can meet the standards. The BCTC may appoint a program assessment team to support Process A and Process D.

The following materials guide approved teacher education programs, post-secondary institutions seeking approval of a program, and program assessment teams through the processes outlined in the Teacher Education Program Approval & Review Framework.
