Schedule of teacher education program reviews

The BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) carries out the review of the teacher education program using a pre-arranged schedule. 

  • Process C – Ongoing structured dialogue: 2016, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2024, 2028 and 2030 
  • Process D – Maintenance review: 2020 and 2026

The following are the outcomes from each review process.

 

Process B - changes to an existing program

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent June 16, 2022
Proposed Change The Department of Curriculum and Instruction submitted a proposal to add EDCI 433 (Anthropology and Education) as an option to fulfill the requirement of foundational studies of the theories and practices of teaching and learning within its Secondary Post-Degree Professional Program.
TEPARC Analysis Proposal recommended for approval as a minor program change

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent November 30, 2020
Proposed Change The Department of Indigenous Education submitted a proposal to offer a 20-month post-degree professional program - Indigenous Education (elementary). The program is for degree holders interested in completing teacher preparation focused on supporting Indigenous learners. Graduates will received a B.Ed. degree and will be eligible to apply for a B.C. teaching certificate.

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent January 10, 2020
Proposed Change The Department of Indigenous Education proposed changes to the B.Ed. in Indigenous Language Revitalization program. The changes included coursework with an enhanced Indigenous focus, support mechanisms for teacher candidates within the Department of Indigenous Education, and new and more flexible pathways for prospective Indigenous teachers.

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent November 7, 2019
Proposed Change The Department of Curriculum and Instruction submitted a proposal to revise course numbers and descriptions. The purpose was to update and move to a COM/N/F grading scale within the elementary B.Ed. post-degree program.

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent June 29, 2017
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education submitted a proposal to add a 30-credit physical and health education teachable area to the post-degree program (secondary). The proposal will allow students with various academic backgrounds to enter the post-degree professional program to teach physical and health education.
