Schedule of teacher education program reviews

The BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) carries out the review of the teacher education program using a pre-arranged schedule. 

  • Process C – Ongoing structured dialogue: 2017, 2019, 2023, 2025 and 2029 
  • Process D – Maintenance review: 2021 and 2027

The following are the outcomes from each review process.

 

Process B - changes to an existing program

Proposed Change

The Faculty of Education proposed a new pilot field experience course (EDUC 413) in the two-year post-degree B.Ed. program, to replace PSYC 201 with EDUC 210 in the Inclusive Education Minor, and to offer a new course (EDUC 355) in the Inclusive Education Minor.

TEPARC Analysis Proposal recommended for approval as a minor program change

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent March 6, 2018
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed changes to the undergrad core curriculum in response to the revised B.C. K-12 curriculum. The changes would include a more inquiry-based learning program (Creating Effective Learning Communities), add 2 semester hours in the core (from 44 to 46 hours) for all undergraduate students (EDUC 400), add 1 semester hour to EDUC 496 and EDUC 495, and make the following 4 courses mandatory for the concurrent program: EDUC 302, EDUC 303, EDUC 402, EDUC 403

Process B outcome

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent September 8, 2016 
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed changes to its B.Ed. program (elementary and secondary streams) to offer an additional optional course and allow students to choose either EDUC 365 or EDUC 345, and to offer EDUC 411 as an alternative to EDUC 401 for students who wish to teach in K-3 classrooms.
