Schedule of teacher education program reviews

The BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) carries out the review of the teacher education program using a pre-arranged schedule. 

  • Process C – Ongoing structured dialogue: 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2027 and 2029 
  • Process D – Maintenance review: 2025

Outcome from each review process

The following are the outcomes from each review process.

 

Process B - changes to an existing program

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent November 27, 2023
Proposed Change The Faculty of Human and Health Sciences (School of Education) proposed revisions to its B.Ed. courses, course credits and program structure. The total program credits and duration remain the same.

BCTC Decision Approved January 30, 2024

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent November 26, 2020
Proposed Change The College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences proposed a Regional Bachelor of Education Program. UNBC will deliver its renewed B.Ed. program to a shared regional cohort at UNBC's Terrace and Quesnel campuses.

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent November 20, 2019
Proposed Change The College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences submitted a proposal to add a diploma in Skidegate Haida Language and Culture to the existing list of education diplomas leading to a Developmental Standard Term Certificate (DSTC).

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent February 25, 2019
Proposed Change

The College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences proposed a renewed B.Ed. program that included a curriculum revision to address changes in the B.C. K-12 curricula, signature pedagogy to integrate Indigenous Education and address educators' needs in the region, and emphasis on on-site experiential learning.

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent October 20, 2016
Proposed Change The School of Education proposed changes to the B.Ed. coursework at the Terrace campus that would allow students to complete the program earlier, expediting certification and employment readiness. The elementary stream would be changed from 73 credits to 67 credits.

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent September 9, 2016
Proposed Change The School of Education proposed revisions to the coursework in the B.Ed. program at the Prince George campus. The revisions would allow students to complete the program earlier, expediting certification and employment readiness. The elementary stream would be changed from 73 credits to 65 credits. The senior stream would be changed from 74 credits to 62 credits.
