Schedule of teacher education program reviews

The BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) carries out the review of the teacher education program using a pre-arranged schedule. 

  • Process C – Ongoing structured dialogue: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2025 and 2027 
  • Process D – Maintenance review: 2023 and 2029

The following are the outcomes from each review process.

 

Process B - changes to an existing program

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent May 16, 2023
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed adding 3 weeks of practicum and 12 units to the Professional Linking Program. The proposed changes are required for the program to meet the TEP Approval Standards. 
TEPARC Analysis Proposal recommended for approval as a minor program change
BCTC Decision Approved October 4, 2023

Process B outcome

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent October 28, 2022
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed that it deliver the EDUC 402 winter semester through a blended online/in-person synchronous model. The course is in the Professional Linking Program Pilot through the Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education (AHCOTE).
TEPARC Analysis Proposal recommended for approval
BCTC Decision Approved February 17, 2023

Process B outcome

Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent September 28, 2022
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed that it allow the Professional Linking Program (PLP) to apply 3 weeks of prior learning assessment recognition (PLAR) towards practicum experience within the course EDUC 403. The proposal allows teacher candidates in the current PLP cohort to meet the new requirement of 16 weeks of total practicum. 
TEPARC Analysis Proposal recommended for approval
BCTC Decision Approved with conditions on February 17, 2023. Approval applies to the 2024 cohort.

Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent January 10, 2017
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed that it change the Professional Development Program from a 3-semester (45 credit) program to a 4-semester (60 credit) program. The revised program structure includes a new course called EDUC 400 (15 credits). The course will help prepare new teachers to enter the profession.
