Schedule of teacher education program reviews

The BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC) carries out the review of the teacher education program using a pre-arranged schedule. 

  • Process C – Ongoing structured dialogue: 2020, 2022, 2025, 2029, 2035  
  • Process D – Maintenance review: 2026 and 2032

Process B - changes to an existing program

Proposed Change The Faculty of Education submitted a proposal to restructure the teacher education program while reducing the overall length from 16 to 11 months.
TEPAR Analysis Proposal recommended for approval as a major program change

Process B outcome
Process Outline Process Details
Date the BCTC received the Notice of Intent October 29, 2015
Proposed Change The Faculty of Education proposed a Renewed B.Ed. program aimed at developing scholar-practitioners and professional learning networks. The program would be offered over 16 months, with 5 continuous terms, and a total of 60 credits. The program would offer 2 streams: teaching children (elementary), and teaching adolescents (secondary).
TEPARC Analysis

Proposal recommended for approval with conditions:

  • UBCO to host 4 visits by BCTC members/Teacher Regulation Branch staff during the first cycle of the program (16 months)
  • UBCO to share with the BCTC the initial findings from its research/data as the program is implemented over time
  • An opportunity be provided for follow up with local employers and local BCTF representatives on the continuing partnership with UBCO
BCTC Decision Approved with conditions October 27, 2016. Conditions removed February 15, 2019.
