Lulu Island Winery
Lulu Island Winery Ltd. (Lulu Island) combines traditional Chinese wine making methods with Western technology to create perfectly crafted wines.
The company offers a wide range of wines for export, all proudly sporting the Vitner’s Quality Alliance stamp, including: red wines, in varieties such as merlot, cabernet, shiraz, pinot noir and heritage; white wines, in varieties including pinot gris, chardonnay and chardonnay muscat; fruit wines, in flavours such as raspberry, blueberry and cranberry; and award-winning icewines, such as their riesling chardonnay, vionet, and double gold award winning cabfrancmerlot. All icewines are made from exclusively B.C. grapes that are naturally frozen on the vine, have no additional sugar added, and are produced without artificial refrigeration.
First established in Richmond in 2000 as the Blossom Winery production facility, the company rebranded to Lulu Island in 2009 with the launch of their full wine range. They are one of B.C.’s largest icewine producers and exporters, sending 80% of their wine production to international markets.
Founder and President John Chang, originally hailing from Taipei, has worked for years to understand every aspect of the brewing process. Much of the company’s grapes are sourced locally from growers and vineyards throughout the Okanagan, where sustainability measures like drip irrigation, composting and recycling help lower the carbon footprint of Lulu Island’s products. The winery gives back to the community by donating to various local organizations, including the Richmond Food Bank and the Richmond Community Foundation.
