What is a BCeID?

A BCeID is an account that provides secure electronic access to online government services. There are three types of BCeID accounts: Basic, Personal, and Business. Our online application - Mineral Titles Online requires an individual or corporation to have a Business BCeID.

How do I get a BCeID?

Register for a Business BCeID account online. There are no fees for a BCeID account.

Mineral Titles Online requires a Business BCeID account.

If you are an individual:

You will be doing business with government as a sole proprietor using your own name.  As you go through the BCeID enrolment process you will be asked for the type of business you are enrolling. Select ‘Proprietorship’ and respond ‘No’ to the question, ‘Do you have a business number?’

The last step of the process will require you to visit a Service BC or FrontCounter BC location for identity verification.  Don’t forget to bring the exact identification that you used during your enrollment.

To minimize trips to a government office, it is suggested that you also bring your completed FMC application which can be processed during the same office visit. The FMC application form can be downloaded from the Mineral Titles Branch website.

If you are a company:

Please refer to the business type registration checklist for your business type on the BCeID website. Each checklist will describe the information you will need to register your company with BCeID.

How can I get my identity verified?

You get your identity verified at a Service BC or FrontCounter BC office.

To be verified, you must show the same two pieces of I.D. that you entered when applying for your BCeID online. One must be a photo document (i.e. driver's license) and the secondary document must include a matching name and signature (i.e. bank or credit card).

How can I get a Business BCeID for Mineral Titles Online (MTO) if I do not live in BC?

You have two options:

  • You can enroll for your Business BCeID online and make a trip to BC to visit a Service BC or FrontCounter BC office within 30 days. If you are an individual you will need to visit a Service BC or FrontCounter BC office for identity verification. Bring your required identity verification documents with you.
  • You can first register your sole proprietorship or business with the BC Business Registry and then enroll for your Business BCeID online.  Sole proprietorships can also be registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.  If you register your business or sole proprietorship with the BC Business Registry or register as a sole proprietorship with the Canada Revenue Agency, you will be issued a business number. You can use the business number when applying for your Business BCeID. In person identify verification may not be required depending on the business type.

For more information about applying for a BCeID for other business types such as corporations, please review Register for a Business BCeID on the BCeID website.

Please note, out-of-province companies conducting business in BC must register as an extra-provincial company with the BC Registry.

I forgot my BCeID password. Can you tell me what it is?

No, the Mineral Titles Branch office does not have access to your password. Please refer to Frequently Asked Questions on the BCeID website for how to recover your password.

I have a BCeID why can't I log on to MTO?

Please check the following:

  1. Confirm you have a Business BCeID account.  MTO will not accept a Personal or Basic BCeID account.
  2. Confirm you have accepted the Business Terms of Use Agreement for using your BCeID account if you have recently applied for your BCeID.
    • Log onto your BCeID account. If you have not accepted the agreement yet, the business BCeID Terms of Use agreement will be displayed for you to read and accept.
  3. Confirm your BCeID password has not expired.
    • Log onto your BCeID account. If your password has expired, the BCeID website will recognize your previous password and force you to change it.
  4. Do you have a Free Miner Certificate (FMC)? Have you been authorized by the Mineral Titles Branch for access to MTO?

If you are still not able to log into MTO after checking the above, please contact the Mineral Titles Online Help Desk.

Can I use the same Business BCeID account with my individual free miner certificate and my company free miner certificate?

No, you must have a separate Business BCeID for your individual free miner certificate and for your company free miner certificate. Each BCeID account needs to match the individual or business entity that it represents.

What do I do if my Business Profile Manager/Business Account Manager has left the company and there is no one else in the company with access?

In the case of companies or partnerships, if the Business Profile Manager (BPM)/Business Account Manager (BAM) has left the company and there is no alternate BPM or BAM, you will need to contact the BCeID Help Desk for help and advice.

Note: The BCeID Program recommends your company have more than one individual who can manage the company BCeID account.
