Cutting Permit & Road Tenure Administration

Last updated on May 31, 2024

A cutting permit (CP) and road permit (RP) are a form of agreement under the Forest Act, section 12 that is issued by the Statutory Decision Maker to authorize the holder of a licence agreement to cut their AAC granted in the licence agreement for a defined area.

A road use permit (RUP), also issued by the Statutory Decision Maker, is an authority to use and maintain a Forest Service Road (FSR) for industrial purposes.

  • A CP provides the holder with the authority to cut and remove timber for a defined area within the licence agreement area.
  • An RP provides the holder with the authority to construct, use, and maintain a road, as well as the cutting authority to cut (only), or cut and remove, Crown timber if required.
  • An RUP provides the holder permission to use and maintain an FSR. All industrial users on an FSR are required to obtain a Road Use Permit.
