Meet Our Students

Nicholas Loughton - Nick is a new graduate of University of Victoria Law (UVic). Born and raised in Victoria, he attended the University of Calgary where he studied biomedical sciences. In his free time, he enjoys golfing and sailing with friends, and spending time with his dog Skippy.

Cassie Lumsden - Cassie recently received a Juris Doctor with a concentration in environmental law and sustainability from the University of Victoria and is returning to article in the Vancouver office after summering with Legal Services Branch (LSB) last year. Prior to attending law school, Cassie received a BSc. in Geographical Sciences and a minor in English from the University of British Columbia. From school and previous positions held with the Government of B.C., Cassie is interested in environmental law and policy, administrative law, and working with legislation and policy in general. In her free time, Cassie plays golf and competitive softball.

Clancy McDaniel - Clancy McDaniel (she/her) is a proud Cape Bretoner turned West Coast convert, who graduated from the University of Victoria (UVic) Faculty of Law in 2024. While at UVic, she served as President and Vice President Finance of the University of Victoria Law Students’ Society and was awarded the Diana Priestly Award for outstanding service to the law school community. Clancy’s interest in the intersection between law, public policy, and the public service drew her to the Ministry of Attorney General, where she is excited to use these passions to serve British Columbians. Outside of school and work, Clancy loves checking out Victoria’s many beaches, going for long walks with friends, and being a devoted mom to her cat, Camille.

Ben Risk - Originally from Ottawa, Ben completed his undergraduate degree in Public Policy at Carleton University. He completed his Juris Doctor  at the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. During law school, he worked as a Clinician with Allard's International Justice and Human Rights Clinic where he focused on international environmental law. He also participated in the Laskin moot that greatly improved his knowledge of administrative law, but only slightly improved his French. In his free time, Ben likes to hike, ski, and climb. He also grew up paddling the rivers of Ontario and Quebec and takes any opportunity to get back out on the water.
