Last updated on January 7, 2019

The Attorney General Law Library serves the Legal Services Branch (LSB) across BC. Library staff are available to assist you via email, phone and in-person Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The AG Law Library collection of legal resources is tailored to the work of LSB, which includes print and online resources, such as Westlaw Next, Lexis Advance, HeinOnline and more. Our main print collection is housed at the main library in Victoria with more items found in Vancouver and satellite libraries located in each practice group. If you aren’t sure where an item is, just ask.

Library staff provides research and reference assistance to all LSB staff and limited services to other staff within the Ministry of Attorney General. We recommend that you contact the library for assistance if you have not found what you are looking for after 10 minutes of searching.

We are here to support and assist articling students with their research and provide one-on-one training. Typical questions we can help you with include:

  • Providing complete legislative histories of Acts
  • Locating Hansard, Explanatory notes, and other legislative documents
  • Finding copies of Acts or hard to find cases
  • Noting-up Acts and case law
  • Assistance locating primary and secondary sources on points of law
  • Citation assistance
  • How to effectively use our online resources
