Following the 2025 BCTS review, strong partnerships emerged as a key cornerstone of the expanded mandate. Establishing and maintaining long-term partnerships with communities, First Nations, and the forest industry combines our strengths and enables partners and BCTS to achieve mutual goals that reflect the values of all people in B.C.
BCTS’ expanded mandate outlines the key goals we aim to achieve through partnership.
BCTS partnerships use innovative practices to care for a forest through its entire life, from planting through growth and regeneration.
Partnerships reflect local values throughout B.C., supporting community priorities like water, recreation, and wildfire risk reduction.
By supporting local manufacturers, partnerships help deliver a reliable, diverse wood supply while creating jobs and public revenue for people in British Columbia.
BCTS is in the process of developing a robust partnership toolkit to support diverse partnerships across B.C. This toolkit will be updated as new tools are made available.
A tenure holder may enter a partnership with BCTS that enables shared management of timber. The partnership can be with a First Nation tenure holder, Community Forest Agreement holder, woodlot license holder, or other forest tenure holder. Working in partnership presents the opportunity for better outcomes through resource sharing, access to funding for special initiatives, and optional BCTS support from planning, to auction, through to meeting silvicultural obligations.

BCTS collaborates with communities and community groups, First Nations, and other interest holders in the stewardship of BCTS areas of operation for which the partner has significant interest in. This collaboration ensures BCTS forestry activities address local community goals and priorities, resulting in better forest stewardship and community-oriented outcomes through employment opportunities, contracts, wood to local manufacturing facilities, and support for other community values such as recreation and wildfire risk reduction.
