BC Timber Sales - Indigenous relations

Publication date: April 27, 2017

In 2018, BC Timber Sales (BCTS) adopted a new overarching principle to guide our operations: reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

BC Timber Sales supports government’s commitment to true, lasting reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in British Columbia; this includes the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (PDF) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action (PDF).

As with other government agencies, BCTS is also following the Province’s Draft Principles that Guide the Province of British Columbia’s Relationship with Indigenous Peoples (PDF, 136KB).

Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples is integral to BCTS’ long-term success. Each of BCTS’ 12 business areas have Indigenous relations staff dedicated to building relationships with Indigenous peoples. This includes one or more operations managers, Indigenous relations team leads, and Indigenous relations liaisons.
