Ukrainian (CUAET) arrivals and BC PharmaCare

Last updated on April 9, 2024

100% medication coverage for the first year in B.C.

As soon as people arriving to B.C. through CUAET are enrolled in the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP), they are covered by PharmaCare's Plan C for one year.

Plan C provides 100% coverage of eligible prescription costs and medical devices and supplies. A pharmacy cannot charge for eligible prescriptions and dispensing fees. Your pharmacy bill will show how much PharmaCare covers. You do not need to submit receipts.

If you enrolled in MSP before September 23, 2022, your Plan C coverage started on September 23, 2022. Call us if you need to know when your coverage began.

Apply for Fair PharmaCare

People who arrived through CUAET should apply for Fair PharmaCare before their Plan C coverage ends to continue receiving help with drug costs.

Fair PharmaCare is based on a person's income. The lower your income, the more help you get with eligible medication and medical supply costs.

Fair PharmaCare accepts two types of alternate proof of income:

  • Previous year's notice of assessment (NOA)
  • A notarized affidavit

You will need to submit a CRA NOA for the year previous to the current year, if available, or complete the Fair PharmaCare Proof of Income Affidavit as part of your application.

If you apply for Fair PharmaCare while you still have Plan C coverage, your eligible medication will be covered by Plan C.

Emergency drug coverage

Emergency drug coverage is available to CUAET arrivals who are not yet enrolled in MSP.

BC PharmaCare will fully cover the eligible costs of the first fill of any urgently required medications prescribed by a B.C. prescriber.

When the prescriber (e.g., doctor, nurse practitioner) writes a prescription, they complete the Emergency BC PharmaCare Coverage for Ukrainian Arrivals form (PDF, 1,033 KB). You present the form at the pharmacy with your prescription(s).
