Children in the At Home Program (Plan F)

Last updated on December 27, 2024

B.C.'s At Home Program helps parents and guardians with the costs of caring for a child with complex disabilities at home.  Children enrolled in the program qualify for full coverage of eligible prescription drugs and eligible medical supplies and equipment under PharmaCare Plan F.

If your child is enrolled in the At Home Program, the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) contacts BC PharmaCare to enroll your child in Plan F. There may be a short delay between enrolment in the At Home Program and Plan F coverage. Plan F coverage cannot be provided retroactively.

What does Plan F pay for?

Under Plan F, PharmaCare pays:

  • 100% of eligible drugs and dispensing fees

Plan F covers part of the cost of eligible:

  • Needles and syringes for insulin-dependent diabetes
  • Continuous and flash glucose monitors
  • Blood glucose test strips, when administered by someone certified by a diabetes education center
  • Insulin pump supplies
  • Ostomy supplies
  • Some prostheses and orthoses

To be eligible for Plan F, individuals must have active Medical Services Plan (MSP) coverage.

Plan F coverage ends on the last day of the month that a child turns 18 years of age.

Coverage under Plan F does not extend to patients in acute or extended care hospitals.

Plan F covers the child in the At Home Program only. Other family members can register for Fair PharmaCare and may be eligible for another PharmaCare plan.
