What to know

BC PharmaCare covers many diabetes medications and several devices and supplies to help with diabetes management.

B.C. residents enrolled in MSP are automatically covered under the National Pharmacare plan, which covers many medications. All are encouraged to register for the income-based Fair PharmaCare plan.

Diabetes medications

As of March 1, 2026, the National Pharmacare Plan (Plan NP) pays the full cost of many diabetes medications, including insulin, metformin, glyburide, glicazide, dapagliflozin, and empagliflozin. You do not need a certificate of training from a diabetes education centre (DEC) or primary care network (PCN) to qualify for coverage.
