Replace a Lost or Stolen Plate, Decal or Document

Move a Plate to an Alternate vehicle

A plate, decal and vehicle identification certificate (VIC) is issued for a specific vehicle. It’s your responsibility to inform the Registrar when a vehicle is no longer in service and is being replaced with another vehicle.

A replacement VIC must be issued before the plate and decal can be moved to an alternate vehicle. This certificate must be placed in the alternate vehicle.

Provide the following documents for the new or alternate vehicle:

• Vehicles registered in B.C.
• Vehicles registered outside of B.C.

The fee for each request listed above is $50 and is non-refundable.
