Fraser Valley Highway 1 Supporting Projects

To prepare for major construction, advance works and environmental rehabilitation are underway or completed at various locations along Highway 1 throughout the Program area.

 

Fishtrap Creek Median Preload

Preloading of compressible soils in the median of Highway 1 (approximately 1.2 km east of Mt. Lehman Road to west of Peardonville Road) to increase their weight bearing capacity and to reduce settlement.

Status

The Fishtrap Creek Median Preload Project was completed in 2025.

Cost

The contract value for the Fishtrap Creek Median Preload Project was $14.3 M. 

The contract was awarded to Timbro Contracting.

 

Fishtrap Creek Environmental Rehabilitation

Project highlights

Temporary extension of the culverts in Fishtrap Creek as part of environmental habitat to prepare for construction.

Status

The Fishtrap Creek Environmental Rehabilitation Project was completed in 2024.

Cost

The contract value for the Fishtrap Creek Environmental Rehabilitation Project was $0.95 million.

The contract was awarded to Seyem Kwantlen Construction Ltd.

 

Median Soil Removal (Phase 3A)

Project highlights

Removing soil in the median of Highway 1, from approximately 950 metres west of the 264th Street underpass to approximately 1.1 km west of the Mt. Lehman Road bridge, to prepare for construction.

Status

The Median Soil Removal (Phase 3A) Project was completed in 2024.

Cost

The contract value for Median Soil Removal (Phase 3A) was $14.7 million.

The contract was awarded to Jakes Construction.

 

Median Soil Removal (Phase 3B)

Project highlights

  • Removing soil in the median of Highway 1 from three areas west of Clearbrook Road, and two areas between Clearbrook Road and McCallum Road, to prepare for major construction.
  • King Road south at Riverside Road was realigned to accommodate the widening of Highway 1 to the south.

Status

The Median Soil Removal (Phase 3B) Project was completed in 2024.

Cost

The contract value for Median Soil Removal (Phase 3B) was $5.5 million.

The contract was awarded to Wide Roads.

 

King Road Realignment

Project highlights

King Road south at Riverside Road is being realigned to accommodate the widening of Highway 1 to the south.

Improvements to this section of King Road include:

  • Clearing trees
  • Grubbing soil for unwanted matter like roots, stumps, and logs
  • Relocating third-party utilities
  • Installing streetlights for enhanced safety
  • Building new curbs and sidewalks; installing signage and pavement markings

Status

Construction began on the King Road Realignment in summer 2024. It is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025.

Cost

The contract value for the King Road Realignment Project is $5 million.

The contract was awarded to Regehr Contracting.

 

East Lonzo Creek Environmental Rehabilitation

Project highlights

The realignment of Lonzo Creek is designed to be set back from the limits of the new Highway 11 Interchange and will also include the following:

  • Grading, shaping, and placing riprap along the creek.
  • Stabilizing creek-banks with woody debris.
  • Removing sediment from the creek, including invasive plant materials and species.
  • Restore critical fish habitats.

Status

The East Lonzo Creek Rehabilitation Project was completed in 2025.

Cost

The contract value for the Lonzo Creek Environmental Rehabilitation Project was $16 million. 

The contract was awarded to Wochmel Milestone JV.

 

Highway 11 Advanced Works

Project highlights

  • Relocation of third-party utilities
  • Site grading, tree removal and soil placement
  • Geotechnical data collection

Status

The Highway 11 Advanced Works Project was completed in 2025. 

Cost

The contract value for the Highway 11 Advanced Works Project was $8.3 million.

The contract was awarded to Jakes Construction.
