Northwest Fire Centre bans and restrictions

View all bans and restrictions for the Northwest Fire Centre, which stretches from the west coast to just west of Endako and from the Yukon border to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park.

Current Northwest fire prohibitions 

Category 1 campfires, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning, as defined in the Wildfire Regulation, are prohibited across the entire Northwest Fire Centre.

In addition, the Prohibition Area prohibits the following (as per the Wildfire Act, Section 12):

  • Fireworks
  • Sky lanterns
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Air curtain burners
  • Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
  • Chimineas
  • Tiki and similar kinds of torches

This prohibition does not apply to:

  • Outdoor stoves that, as per the Wildfire Regulation, are CSA-rated or ULC-rated devices used for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall. The use of a campfire apparatus that does not meet these specifications is prohibited.

Current Northwest area restrictions

There are currently no area restrictions in the Northwest Fire Centre.
