Cariboo Fire Centre prohibitions and restrictions

View all prohibitions and restrictions for the Cariboo Fire Centre, which stretches from Clinton, north to the Cottonwood River, east to Wells Gray Provincial Park and west to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park.

Current Cariboo fire prohibitions

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, as defined in the Wildfire Regulation, are prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, including the Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area. Municipalities regulate open fire within their boundaries. Please check with local municipalities for any prohibitions or restrictions before lighting a fire.

This Order takes effect at 12:00 (noon) PDT May 7, 2025, and remains in effect until 12:00 (noon) PDT Oct. 31, 2025, or until the Order is rescinded.

In addition, the following activities and use of equipment, materials and substances are prohibited within the Prohibition Area, per Section 12 of the Wildfire Act:

  • Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act
  • Binary Exploding Targets
  • Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description
  • Controlled Air Incinerators
  • Air Curtain Burners
  • Carbonizers

Current Cariboo area restrictions

There are currently no Forest Use restrictions or area restrictions in effect in the Cariboo Fire Centre.
