Missing health records

Health Gateway gets your health records from different source systems.

The first time you log in, it will take up to 48 hours for all your available health records to get added. Try logging in again in a couple of days.

After you get a test or procedure, it can take time for your health record to get added to Health Gateway. For example:

  • Blood test results can take a couple days
  • Imaging reports can take a couple weeks
  • Pathology test (e.g., cervix screening) results can take a few weeks to months

Not all historical health records are available. For example:

  • Imaging reports are available from September 2023 or later
  • Lab results are available from 2020 or later

What to do if there's an error in my health record

Health Gateway is a viewer only. It gets your records from other source systems. Health Gateway cannot update your health records.

You can contact the site where you received care to request an update. If you received care at a health authority facility, you can contact their health records department:

If you think there's an error in a community health visit record, you can can submit a complaint through the Ministry of Health Billing Integrity Program.

Add or update a vaccination record

You can:

  • Add a COVID-19 vaccination from outside of B.C.
  • Add an immunization you received at a family practice or travel clinic
  • Correct an error in your immunization records

Access without a mobile device

If you don't have a mobile device, you can still access Health Gateway from a laptop or personal computer. To log in, you will use a username, password and a code from a small device called a BC Token. Find out how to get a BC Token.

If you share a mobile phone with another person, only one of you can set up their BC Services Card account on the phone. The other person can use the BC Token to log in. Keep in mind you can also use a tablet or iPad, if you have one.

Learn more about my results

You can find out more about specific lab tests or imaging procedures on the following trusted websites:

Or you can call 8-1-1 to speak to a health services navigator. They can help you find health information or connect you directly with a registered nurse, registered dietitian, qualified exercise professional, or pharmacist.

Keep in mind that health records provide a partial picture of your health. To interpret these results, your health care provider must combine your health information with your medical history, current symptoms, or other diagnostic tests to arrive at a conclusion.

Troubleshoot downloading a PDF

If you are having trouble downloading a PDF, try using a laptop or desktop computer instead of a mobile device.

If the file downloads but it is corrupt, wait 24 hours and try again. Health Gateway will get a fresh copy the next day.

If you're still having issues, email HealthGateway@gov.bc.ca for support.

Getting access to someone else's records

You can add your child or dependent 11 years and younger to your account. At this time, you cannot access for someone else who is 12 years and older.

If you are having trouble adding a dependent, make sure:

  • Your child is 11 years or younger
  • You’re using their BC Services Card, not a CareCard
  • You’ve typed their full name exactly as it appears on their BC Services Card, including any middle names. Also try entering their full name using all capital letters
  • Your mobile device is not adding extra spaces when completing the online form. You could try using a laptop or desktop computer instead

If you are still unable to add your child, email us at HealthGateway@gov.bc.ca.

If you are supporting a family member 12 years and older with their care, you may wish to help them set up their own Health Gateway account. They can choose to share their health records with you and their care team, as needed.
