Paxlovid for B.C. residents

Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (Paxlovid™) is a COVID-19 treatment prescribed to reduce the risk of hospitalization for adults who are moderate-to-severely immunocompromised, and/or 60 years or older with a high-risk chronic condition.
B.C. residents must be enrolled in Medical Services Plan (MSP) to get PharmaCare coverage for Paxlovid.
Paxlovid is unnecessary for most people living in B.C. It is only beneficial for people who are considered at a higher risk for developing serious illness, such as people who are severely immunosuppressed.
Most B.C. residents won’t benefit from Paxlovid. People are asked to reserve resources for those who really need Paxlovid. Talk to your prescriber about Paxlovid, including the safety risks associated with it. Paxlovid is known to interact with many medications and is linked to side effects.
Most B.C. residents have developed a strong immunity to COVID-19 through previous infections and vaccinations. Most people can safely manage their COVID-19 symptoms at home through self-care
