Taxes and payments during BCGEU job action or a postal disruption

Last updated on September 12, 2025

During BCGEU job action or a postal disruption, you are still responsible for filing your returns, claiming grants or credits, applying for programs or refunds, filing appeals and making payments on time. Deadlines and penalty and interest rules still apply.

Returns and invoices

If you miss a filing deadline or payment due date, penalty and interest rules still apply.

Any returns and invoices issued or payments made electronically through eTaxBC are not affected by BCGEU job action or a postal disruption. You can file returns and pay invoices through eTaxBC 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Any invoices issued or paid electronically through the Billing & Payment System are not affected by BCGEU job action or a postal disruption. You can look up your balance and pay invoices through the Billing & Payment System 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you receive printed returns or invoices by mail, the rules still apply, even if there is a delay in receiving your return or invoice.

We recommend you file returns, receive invoices or pay electronically. Go to the applicable web page listed below to learn how.

Refund applications and appeals

To be considered on-time, refund applications and tax appeals must be received by the Ministry of Finance within the legislated time limit.

Refund application forms include information on time limits and how to submit them to government. Expect refund processing times to be delayed.

Tax appeals must be received on or before the deadline. Generally, appeals must be received within 90 days from the date on the appealable notice or letter. However, there are some exceptions, and you should confirm the deadline for your appeal. For more information, see Appeal to the Minister of Finance.
