Pay your mineral land tax

You pay mineral land tax yearly for each property where you own the mineral rights. All owners are responsible for any unpaid mineral land tax. If you own mineral rights with other individuals, each owner will be sent a copy of the tax notice.

To make sure the taxes are paid in full by the due date, we recommend:

  • All of the owners agree on how to share the taxes, and
  • You have one owner make the payment

How to pay

You can pay your mineral land tax the following ways:

Online using eTaxBC

To pay online you must enrol for access to your mineral land tax account. You need to enrol for a separate eTaxBC account for mineral land tax, even if you already have an eTaxBC account for other fees or taxes you pay (e.g. PST). To enrol you’ll need the following information:

  1. Your folio number
  2. Your new Mineral Land Tax (MLT) account number
  3. A copy of your latest Notice of Mineral Land Tax Assessment

If you don't have all of this information or the amount on your previous assessment was $0.00, call 1-877-388-4440 (option 1).

Once you've enrolled, you can log on to eTaxBC to pay and update your account information.

Mail or courier

Payments are accepted by cheque, bank draft or money order made payable to the Minister of Finance. Do not send cash.

Note: We will not accept payments by international bank draft of less than $500 Canadian dollars. If submitted, the draft will be returned to you and you will need to make alternate payment arrangements.

Write your account number (e.g. MLT-XXXX-XXXX) on your payment so it can be easily identified when your payment is processed.
