You can submit your paper mineral tax return and supporting documentation by eTaxBC, Service BC centre, mail, courier, or fax to 250-952-0191. However, you cannot submit your paper tax return or supporting documentation through your bank or financial institution.

Your payment and/or tax return is considered on time if we receive it by 4:30pm on the due date.

How to submit

You can submit your mineral tax the following ways:

Online using eTaxBC

To file and pay online you must enrol for access to your mineral tax account. You need to enrol for a separate eTaxBC account for mineral tax, even if you already have an eTaxBC account for other fees or taxes you pay (PST, for example). To enrol you’ll need the following information:

  1. Your folio number
  2. Your new Mineral Tax (MT) account number
  3. A copy of your latest Notice of Mineral Tax Assessment

If you don't have all of this information or the amount on your previous assessment was $0.00, call 1-877-388-4440 (option 1).

Already enrolled?

Once you've enrolled, you can log on to eTaxBC to pay and update your account information.

Pay through your bank or financial institution

If you have filed your return, you can pay your taxes through your bank or financial institution in the following ways:

  1. Bill payment service
  2. Electronic funds transfer
  3. Wire transfer

To avoid late payment interest, ask your bank when they will consider your payment received. For example, if you bring a payment into your bank in the afternoon, the bank may date stamp the payment for the next business day.

Bill payment service

Bill payment services can generally be accessed through:

  • Your online bank account
  • An automated teller machine (ATM)
  • Telephone banking

Be aware that payments made using bill payment services can take up to 3 business days to process. To avoid late payment penalties and interest, make your payment more than 3 business days before the due date.

To pay your taxes using a bill payment service add a payee for Mineral Tax to your bank account. To add a new payee, you need our payee name and your account number.

Payee name

For return and instalment payments, you should find us listed under one of the following payee names:

  • BC - Mineral Oil & Gas
  • BC - MOG

For overdue account payments, you should find us listed under:

  • BC - STMT of Acct

Some banks and financial institutions will use a variation of the payee names above. If you can't find us, call your bank for assistance.

Account number

Your account number starts with an “MT” and is followed by one letter and eight numbers (for example: MTR-XXXX-XXXX or MTQ-XXXX-XXXX). You will find your account number listed on your Notice of Assessment or Statement of Account.

Electronic funds transfer or wire transfer

To successfully submit a payment through electronic funds transfer (EFT) or wire transfer, you must:

  1. Provide your bank our account information
  2. Validate your payment by sending us the payment details

If you don’t have an EFT account, you can set one up with your bank or financial institution. You should set up your EFT account well before your first payment is due. You may want to ask your bank if service charges apply.
