BC Building Code interpretations respond to written requests from code users seeking clarification about requirements. They help provide consistency in the understanding and application of code requirements. Code interpretations are not legally binding.
The BC Building Code Interpretation Committee provides uniform, province-wide, non-binding interpretations of the BC Building Code and the BC Plumbing Code.
The committee is made up of volunteer members from:
A Building and Safety Standards Branch member participates as a non-voting member.
The committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month to review, discuss and evaluate interpretation requests. Voting members reach decisions by consensus and provide all results in writing.
Anyone can request a code interpretation or ask for code clarification.
