Web Content Standards

To meet Government of B.C. standards, web content must:

1. Serve at least one of the following purposes:
   • Help people access government services quickly and independently
   • Help people and businesses access and take part in government programs and initiatives
   • Share information that helps people understand government decisions, activities and performance
2. Follow the formatting and writing rules in the Web Style Guide. This includes visual design and branding requirements
3. Meet the most current version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level AA. The B.C. government's Simplified WCAG guide can help you apply these requirements
4. Use plain language at a Grade 8 reading level or lower
5. Use respectful, inclusive language
6. Follow the Writing Guide for Indigenous Content when content is for or about Indigenous Peoples
7. Have a designated owner
8. Be accurate, up-to-date and reviewed within the last year
