The replacement EDQAR (Reg 98-2023) that was announced in 2023 will not be implemented in response to feedback from local governments and industry.

Effective July 20, 2026: The existing regulation will remain in force and updated with modernizing amendments.

The existing regulation applies to authorization holders under the EMA and sets out requirements for sampling, analysis, quality control, and reporting. It also establishes qualification criteria for laboratories that generate environmental data. Authorization holders must continue to submit samples to analytical laboratories that meet the definition of a qualified laboratory.

The Laboratory Standards and Quality Assurance Unit (LS&QA) is pleased to announce the launch of the upgraded B.C. Directory of Qualified Laboratories (the Directory).

The updated Directory provides increased functionality, an improved user experience, and compatibility with the new requirements for qualified laboratories that will come into effect with the revised Environmental Data Quality Assurance Regulation (EDQAR).

The Directory includes laboratories that have met data quality standards outlined by the EDQAR.

Qualified laboratories are required for analysis when submitting environmental monitoring data to the province as part of an authorization under the Environmental Management Act (EMA).
