Alien invasive species
Alien invasive species do not occur naturally in ecosystems in B.C. Their threat to the province's agriculture, forestry and environment is serious – they can:
- Disrupt natural ecosystem processes
- Alter soil chemistry to prevent the regrowth of native plants and economic crops
- Increase soil erosion
- Poison livestock and wildlife
- Increase risk of wildfires
- Interfere with forest regeneration
- Cause allergic reactions, severe skin abrasions and burns
