Destination Development

Last updated on March 29, 2023

Destination development is guided by the Strategic Framework for Tourism in British Columbia and aims to help communities grow and manage their destinations. Destination development is focused on enhancing the supply side of tourism, by providing compelling experiences, quality infrastructure, and remarkable services to entice repeat visitation.

Destination BC and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, in partnership with Indigenous Tourism BC and the Regional Destination Management Organizations, are leading destination development planning across the province to support the ongoing viability of BC’s tourism sector. Across the province, nineteen 10-year destination development strategies have been created, along with regionally specific strategies. The program aims to establish BC as a world-class tourism destination which offers remarkable products and experiences that are authentic, driven by visitor demand, and exceed expectations.

Funding to support Destination Development in the province is provided through the Destination Development fund.
