When you own, lease or gain an interest in a property (e.g. land, home, etc.) located in B.C. you must pay property taxes.
When you own or lease a property or manufactured home in B.C., property taxes must be paid yearly for each property.
When you purchase or gain an interest in property that is registered at the Land Title Office, you're responsible for paying property transfer tax and filing a property transfer tax return.
The speculation and vacancy tax is designed to prevent housing speculation and help turn vacant and underutilized properties into homes for people who live and work in B.C. The tax is a part of the B.C. government’s 30-Point Plan to address the housing crisis and help make life more affordable for people.
If your address, name or the owners of your property change, you’re responsible for updating your municipality, the province and other offices.
