KVR Trail reports

Last updated on February 20, 2026

In November 2021, 67 km of the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) Rail Trail between Brookmere and Princeton were heavily damaged by flooding.  The Province hired McElhanney to conduct extensive analyses, and estimate engineering requirements and costs to both repair and deactivate this section of rail trail. Balancing public safety and long‑term sustainability, the Province recently made the decision to decommission this flood-damaged section. Considering the risk of future climate events, terrain complexity, and high long-term maintenance needs, deactivation was deemed the most sustainable option. All the engineering reports that informed this decision are posted below.
