Commercial and medical cannabis production facilities

Health Canada is the federal agency responsible for regulating and overseeing commercial non-medical, and medical, cannabis production across Canada.

Cannabis distribution and wholesale

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is B.C.’s wholesale distributor of non-medical cannabis. The LDB distributes pre-packaged products to licensed public and private cannabis retail locations.

Illicit cannabis enforcement

B.C.’s Community Safety Unit (CSU) has authority under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act to take enforcement action against illegal cannabis retailers. The CSU may investigate complaints about matters related to illicit cannabis operators.

Local and Indigenous governments

Local and Indigenous governments can adopt bylaws that impact cannabis businesses within their communites, such as zoning or nuisance bylaws. Local authorities are also notified or consulted when a business applies for a new cannabis retail or production licence.
